STAFF at a Powys GP have been hailed as NHS Heroes in recognition of the work they do for the community.

On October 19, staff at Llanfyllin GP were recognised as part of the 75th anniversary celebrations for the NHS.

Dr Melanie Plant, senior partner at the practice, accepted the award on behalf of the practice, while district nurses in Llanfyllin were also recognised by the NHS Heroes awards in service of the community.

Llanfyllin GP nurse Enid Ellis received an individual award and said she was “very happy” to be recognised.

She said: “I am overwhelmed and honoured to have been thought of by Penybontfawr council along with the practice and district nurses for this award.”

OTHER NEWS:

As part of the anniversary celebrations, community councils were invited to nominate a team or individuals working within the NHS in their community to receive an NHS Heroes award.

The scheme was launched in March, as they were asked to find and nominate outstanding individuals or teams who have made the biggest improvements to health services in their regions across 10 categories.

From there, panels of senior regional NHS representatives select regional champions for their dedication to the health service and to the people they care for in their communities.
