Morrisons Supermarkets has confirmed that the former shop in Welshpool formerly occupied by Harry Tuffins will become one of its Daily branches.

Following news on October 28 that Tuffins’ Welshpool shop, located beside McDonald's at the petrol station on Cross Enterprise Park, would be closing and changing ownership to Rontec UK, Morrisons has now confirmed that the space would become one of the supermarket chain's Morrisons Daily outlets.

Morrisons will be opening the shop in partnership with Rontec, with new signs being placed on the branch as it prepares to re-open.

Morrisons Daily is the name of the supermarket's convenience store brand. Morrisons already serves Welshpool with an established supermarket off Berriew Street.

A spokesperson for Morrisons said: "The new Morrisons Daily will open in partnership with Rontec and will offer customers a carefully tailored mix of Morrisons own brand products alongside branded favourites.

“As well as new ranges, the store has received a complete redesign internally and externally incorporating Morrisons bright, modern branding. Fresh food is at the heart of the store and we hope customers will love it."

Harry Tuffins first opened its Welshpool shop in 2018, with the Churchstoke-based brand investing £3 million in a building which created 25 full time jobs in a 3,000 square foot store. The site also has 12 petrol pumps and an HGV lane.

The shop also promoted its use of produce from over 100 suppliers from Wales and the Borders such as Llaeth Y Llan, Henllan Bakery, and Montgomery Vineyard and Kerry Vale wines.

However after five years of operations, the business will come under new ownership following a short period of closure to rebrand the facility. Tuffins closed for the final time on October 29.

The Welshpool Tuffins Facebook account said: “There will be a short closure of the store whilst the forecourt and convenience store are rebranded.

The shop officially changed ownership on October 30 and is currently closed while it undergoes renovations to rebrand the retail area.

Morrisons are opening the chain in partnership with Rontec UK, who are one of Britain’s leading roadside retailers, operating store at over 250 petrol stations across England and Wales, under the Esso, BP and Shell brands.
