Welshpool is preparing to be transported back in time as the town’s annual 1940s Weekend returns for its 2023 event.

From September 29 to October 1, Welshpool will welcome an array of recreators, attractions and vehicles to immerse visitors in a 1940s environment that organisers say will transport attendees back 80 years.

The 1940s Weekend Planning Committee stated: “Visitors can expect a light hearted look at life in a small rural town in the 1940s.

“As you walk around the town, you will be captivated by Re-Enactors and Entertainers in period costume, vintage vehicle displays, trade stands, music and dancing; all with a 1940’s theme.

“There will also be special activities for children including a vintage fun fair and much more.

OTHER NEWS:

A number of performers will be visiting the town over the weekend, such as vintage entertainer Johnny Victory and the Castle Belles ladies vocal group, Ashby Little Big Band with guest vocaliste Kitty Lamare and a concert featuring the Guilsfield Singers to close the event.

The weekend will also feature a parade on Saturday, starting from the Royal oak at 11.45am.

Special guests at this year’s 1940s Weekend include three cast members from the 1940s set sitcom ‘Allo ‘Allo.

Local businesses are decorating their windows and residents in Berriew Road, Severn Street, Broad Street and High Street are encouraged to hang flags or bunting outside their windows.

Tickets for the various concerts and dances can be purchased on line via the website or from Welshpool Jewellers or on the door subject to availability.
