A ploughman from New Mills, near Llanfair Caereinion, was crowned the Welsh Ploughing Champion for the fifteenth time.

On September 9, Montgomeryshire ploughman Evan Watkin took home the top prize at the 63rd All Wales Ploughing and Hedging Championships, winning the title for the fifteenth time.

To retain his title, Evan finished ahead of a previous two-time champion, Rhodri George of Hayscastle, Pembrokeshire, in a closely contested competition.

The 2023 championships were held at the Morfa Mawr farm in Llanon, owned by the University of Aberystwyth.

The event incorporated the Six Nations Vintage Ploughing Championship as well as staging a varied display of vintage tractors cars and farming techniques, attracting competitors and visitors from all over Wales, England, Scotland and Ireland.

In the hot and dry weather, Mr Watkin beat Mr George in the conventional ploughing class by using Case International 895 tractors, while David Chappell from Yorkshire finished third in a Massey Ferguson 420.
