Welshpool Town hall is due to undergo extensive renovations to bring the building’s interior into the twenty first century.

Representatives from both companies visited the Town Hall for an initial assessment on September 7 and are preparing to begin a consultation period for the project.

Cllr Alison Davies assured the council that there would be ample opportunity for both the town councillors and members of the public to weigh in on the consultation process.

She said: “We will all have the opportunity as members of the public or as the council to contribute to this. Our views will be included in every step when the time is right.”

Some councillors wanted assurance that the full Town Council would be involved in the project and would be fully informed of every development in advance, including in the early stages of planning and construction.

Cllr Phil Pritchard asked: “Is the council or committee or any of the sub committees going to be permitted to have some input in the form the consultation takes? I don’t like the idea of half the council not knowing anything about the project as it develops.”

Cllr Richard Church added: “I suggest that maybe we have a meeting of the council with the consultants so they can brief us on where they’re going, we can ask questions or hear what they’re doing.”

Cllr Davies and the Town Clerk assured the councillors that any discussions with the consultants will be documented and available for other councillors to comment on.
