Plans have been revealed for a drive-thru restaurant aimed at electric car owners to use while they wait for their vehicles to charge in Llanfair Caereinion.

Farmland adjacent to the A458 Pool Road and opposite the popular tourist attraction Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway has been earmarked for the proposed development.

The applicants, who had previously applied for 42 homes on the site, say they want a drive-thru restaurant instead of a farm shop because they "do not want to take any business away from the local town".

OTHER NEWS:

The proposal, currently in the outline planning stage to see if the development would be acceptable, has been produced by Welshpool-based Roger Parry & Partners on behalf of applicant JPR Andrew.

The proposed 360 square metre 'off-road' site was "carefully considered" because the development would need good transport links for electric car owners to stop on their journeys along the main coastal road between the West Midlands and West Wales.

Eight electric charging spaces are part of the proposal, along with 13 drive-thru restaurant parking bays and two disabled spaces.

It can take up to an hour using a rapid charger or between six and 12 hours using a non-rapid charger at public electric car charge points.

Plans state that the single-storey drive-thru and waiting area would be a workspace or relaxing area “with limited impacts on any shops or restaurants as it’s like no other within the area”.

With the Welsh Government's target of having electric charging points for every 20 miles of trunk road by 2025, the applicant says there is a need for dedicated charging hubs in rural Mid Wales.

Roger Parry & Partners says it wants comments and thoughts "so that when an application is submitted it is the best it can be, fully accounting for the observations and concerns of the local community".
