A charity golf day in memory of a loving wife who died from cancer has raised thousands of pounds towards the much-needed work carried out by the Lingen Davies Cancer Fund.

St Idloes Golf Club, near Llanidloes hosted a very successful charity day on Saturday, July 29, which raised £7,000 for local funds.

Organiser Phil Benbow, organiser, said: “When I first approached my friend Andrew ‘Butch’ Evans I don't think either of us could have imagined the outcome of a charity day for Lingen Davies.

“Butch was very brave to join me as he had recently lost his wife Juliet to cancer. I wanted to do a day in memory of her; in thanks for my wife, Angie, who has been given the all clear; and in hope for our friend Peter who was being treated at the time.
