Volunteers are needed to preserve Newtown’s history, a local group has pleaded.
Newtown Local History Group is calling on researchers, story tellers, writers, and people who have digital skills to help put on events and activities, and with its archives.
The history group was formed by volunteers more than 35 years ago to digitally record the social history and cultural heritage of Newtown and the surrounding areas for future generations.

Through the Newtonian Journal, which started in 2000, more than 1,000 stories have been told in over 88 editions.
A spokesperson for the history group said: “We need voluntary help to develop our photographic archive and to research new stories and interview local people on our cultural heritage to share and tell the local people’s stories as well as events and places of historic conversation.”
