The Chair of Powys County Council was on hand to start the second day of the Rhayader Enduro event.

Councillor Beverley Baynham, Chair of Powys County Council, welcome competitors and started the Rhayader Two Day Enduro on the Bank Holiday weekend.

She opened the much anticipated event together with Rhayader Motorcycle and Light Car Club (MC & LCC) officials and Clerk of the Course, Malcolm Bates and Patron Raymond Rees.

Club stalwart, John Bates welcomed the dignitaries to the Club’s Cwmythig Hill circuit before Councillor Baynham made a speech welcoming everyone to Powys and wishing the competitors every success.

Also in attendance were County Councillors Angela Davies and Claire Johnson-Wood, together with Mayor of Rhayader, Rhys Thomas, and Vice Chairman of St Harmon Councils, Mark Williams.

The civic leaders flagged away the 180 entry field in the Rhayader MC & LCC’s two day enduro at 9am, which saw riders tackle the nearly 140 mile a day route.

This round of the Welsh Enduro championship attracts “a class field from all over the country and the world”, who were using it as a siting event ready for the Club’s World Championship Enduro round next year.

Organisers of the event said: “Among the competitors was the reigning world enduro champion, Australian Wil Ruprecht with competitors for all over the world including New Zealand, Ireland and Netherlands. 

“The cream of British talent was also on show with the current world championship leader, Steve Holcombe of Tiverton and reigning Women World Enduro Champion Jane Daniels of Wigan.”
