A garden in Newtown has been shortlisted for a ‘Nation’s Favourite Garden’ competition.
Newtown’s Bryn Teg garden, which was opened to the public earlier this year as part of a fundraiser organised by the National Garden Scheme, has been shortlisted for NSG’s ‘Nation’s Favourite Garden’ competition, one of only four gardens in Wales and the Borders to make the cut.

When the garden was opened in July 2023, a record number of over 250 visitors attended, raising £1,200 for nursing and health charities.
Described as a jungle-like garden, it features exotic planting inspired by owner Dolly Childs’ childhood in Jamaica.
A spokesperson for the National Garden Scheme described the space by saying: “The lush foliage of bananas, huge-leaved paulownia, palms and ferns, is enlivened with colourful flowers such as scarlet anthurium.”
