Pub visits Montgomeryshire politicians paid a visit to a number of pubs in Welshpool to discuss the challenges facing rural pubs.

The Welly and Westwood Park Hotel, both in Welshpool, welcomed Montgomeryshire Member of Parliament Craig Williams and Montgomeryshire Senedd Member Russell George as well as Fay Jones, Member of Parliament for Brecon and Radnorshire.

Punch Taverns CEO Clive Chesser also joined the politicians for the tour of local establishments that saw them visit two pubs in Welshpool.

Mr Williams stated via social media: “Thank you for the welcome and hospitality. It was really good to visit and hear about all these great pubs.

“Alongside Russell George MS and Fay Jones MP, we discussed the challenges and opportunities facing rural pubs with Clive and his team.

“I thought it was impressive for the top team of a major business, running over 1,300 pubs to spend some time in Montgomeryshire.”

The visit was welcomed by The Welly, which recently re-opened its doors in December 2022 following a period of closure, undergoing extensive renovation.
