A fictional town which an award-winning author said was inspired by Llanidloes is the "perfect setting" for her thrilling new paranormal adventure.

Following the success of her first two novels - The Demon’s Call and Child of the Covenant - local author Kim Gravell is delighting readers by returning to her fictional Mid Wales town of Llancathan with Welsh witch Gwyn, her ex-ward Aidan and the enigmatic wizard Eldritch.

Kim will be meeting fans at a book signing for her long awaited third novel To Pay for the Crossing at The Great Oak Bookshop on Saturday, August 19, from 10.30am and 12.30pm.

“So many people contacted me after reading my first books, saying they wanted more adventures featuring these characters," Kim said.

“I was pleased to oblige with this story that starts when a tragedy from Eldritch’s past catches up with him, sucking him and his friends into a nightmare conflict from which none of them will emerge unscathed.”

With a storyline that has her characters facing a terrifying new entity, readers who enjoyed Kim’s earlier books won’t be disappointed by the fast-paced adventure To Pay for the Crossing.

County Times:

Set in a fictional version of Llanidloes, the books have proved popular with local readers who enjoy spotting similarities between the Powys market town and its fictional counterpart.

The series also appeals to lovers of action-packed thrillers and the paranormal but To Pay for the Crossing is written as a stand-alone novel. For those readers who enjoyed it the main characters, and their back stories, can be found in Kim’s first two books.

Kim says of the inspiration for her books, “I have had a lifelong fascination with the paranormal, something I believe that many people share.

"In the still of the night, when the corners of the room have sunk into darkness, it’s not hard to imagine there might be something watching from the shadows, just beyond the safety of the light. A deep core of folklore and legends runs through the hills of Mid Wales, like the seams of ore tapped by the old lead mines.

"It makes this area a perfect setting for my stories.”

Kim moved to Mid Wales with her husband in 2001 and lives in a converted chapel originally built for the workers of the local lead mine. She holds a degree in Zoology, a Third Dan in Shotokan karate and is a master Reiki healer. Aspects of all these qualifications find their way into her writing.

Her short stories have appeared in publications such as Writing Magazine and in anthologies by Luna Press, Mothers Milk Books and the British Fantasy Society.

Her first novel, The Demon’s Call, won a Red Ribbon award in the 2016 Wishing Shelf book awards.
