A young Powys farmer has been selected for one of Royal Welsh Agricultural Society’s most prestigious programmes.

Holly Page, 20, from Montgomery, is one of 11 young talents from across Wales in the farming industry to be picked for this year’s Royal Welsh Agricultural Society’s Rural Leadership Programme.

Holly said she “can’t wait” to get started on the programme which will run from 2023 until 2024.

The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society has said that the programme is designed to “inspire the next generation of leaders”.

“I did Farming Connect’s Agri academy to start,” said Holly. “From there as part of my progression I wanted to do something different.

“I applied to the rural leadership programme this year. I am looking forward to it really, I can’t wait. I feel it will help my career progression.”

OTHER NEWS:

The leadership programme aims “to provide an action-packed programme of training” that will include “mentoring, support and guidance” and will take place over three intense residential sessions.

The visits will also allow the young people involved to gain “the opportunity to network with high profile individuals within the industry.”

Holly has said that she is looking forward to the opportunities that the programme will allow her going forward.

“The trips this year are in Cardiff and to London, I am looking to seeing how different people do different things and what’s happening in the industry,” said Holly.

“It is an important time in agriculture so now is the time to do my bit.”

County Times:

Funds for the rural leadership programme were raised by Glamorgan as part of their work as the feature county, something, the 2023 President, John Homfray of the Penllyn Estate said he was proud of.

“We began our Glamorgan journey on August 25, back in 2019,” said Mr Homfray. “We have had a lot of fun over the years and made numerous friends throughout our huge and very varied county.

“Having raised a healthy sum for the charity the refurbishment of the Glamorgan Hall will shortly commence, and we have established the RWAS Rural Leadership Programme of which we are very proud.”
