A parade through Newtown town centre to welcome Europe’s largest youth festival to Montgomeryshire has been cancelled because of bad weather.

Organisers of the 2024 Urdd Eisteddfod Maldwyn proclamation event said the special parade, which was expected to have hundreds of children taking part, will not go ahead from 11am on Saturday (July 15).

Mid Wales is set to have thunder and showers throughout the day with the Met Office issuing a yellow wind warning for parts of west and south Wales.

The Urdd said Saturday's planned activities, entertainment and stalls will all still take place, but the location will be changed from the park near Oriel Davies Gallery to indoors at Ysgol Dafydd Llwyd in Plantation Lane, Newtown.
