Search the Public Notice PortalWORK has begun on a new £1.5 million pedestrian and bicycle bridge in Newtown, Powys County Council has confirmed.
The project funded by the Welsh Government will see the new bridge being built between the Poundstretcher store and Newtown Cemetery in Pool Road, crossing the River Severn.
The council has said while preparatory works are currently underway at the site, the main bulk of the work will begin in the coming weeks and will last until the end of the year.

The work is being carried out by construction firm, JN Bentley who will be responsible for building the new bridge on behalf of Powys County Council.
A spokesperson for the local authority said: "Powys County Council has been advised by the contractors constructing the Newtown Active Travel Bridge that the work could start on site from June 19.
"To date, much of the clearing and preparation ground works has already taken place and the next phase will begin shortly, as schedules and other projects allow.
"The construction of this bridge is complex, with many elements involved, many of which will be unnoticeable and carried out off-site. We will be providing updates to the project and the key milestones throughout the build over the coming months.
