IN September a blanket 20mph speed limit will be brought into force in built up areas across Powys and the whole of Wales.

Powys County Council as a highways authority is set to consult on speed limit change proposals; to 241 stretches of road all across Powys.

But not all the roads will take 20mph limits, and Powys Council has now revealed some of those that will remain 30mph zones. Here are some of the changes affecting Powys' larger towns.

Lengths of Road to Remain 30mph include: 

Brecon

  • B4520 – from a point approximately 26 metres south of the junction of the U0730.
  • U0796 – from a point approximately 50 metres south east from the junction with the A470 for its remaining length.

Llandrindod Wells

  • U1650 –  Ddole Road Enterprise Park Road from its junction with U1653 Cadwallader Way to its junction with A483 Tremont Road.
  • U1653 – Cadwallader Way from its junction with U1650 Ddole Road Enterprise
  • Park Road to its junction with U1620 Waterloo Road.

Newtown 

  • C2025 –  Mochdre Lane from its junction with A4811 Llanidloes Road to a point 48 metres in a north easterly direction from the junction with U2891 Chapel Close, Stepaside.
  • B4800 – from a point approximately 20 metres in a southerly direction from the junction with U2628 Upper Dolfor Road to its junction with A483 in a south westerly direction.
  • B4568 from a point approximately 31 metres in a north easterly direction from the junction with U4272 Tan-y-Graig to a point approximately 377 metres in a north easterly direction.

Welshpool

  • A490 from its junction with the A458 at the Raven roundabout for a distance of 20m in a northerly direction

Ystradgynlais

  • A4068 from a point approximately 30 metres in a southerly direction from the junction with U0490 Gurnos Industrial Estate for a distance of approximately 95 metres in a southerly direction.
  • B4599 – from the northern boundary of 373 Brecon Road for a distance of approximately 276 metres in a northerly direction.

Lengths of road currently subject to a 30mph limit, 20mph limit, 20mph variable limit or 20mph zone to become a “restricted road “with the new 20mph limit.

Brecon

  • U0831 from a point approximately eight metres north-east of its junction with the B4601 Newgate Street for its remaining length.
  • All lengths of  Mount street, Belle View Road, Rhosferig Road,  Lon-y- Coed and the Hawthorn Lane.

Llandrindod Wells

  • U1660 – Trefonnen Lane from a point approximately 96 metres in an westerly direction from the junction with U1661 Trefonnen Avenue for its full length in a easterly direction.
  • U1661 – The Rise from its junction  Trefonnen Avenue for its full length.

Newtown

  • C2087 – Park Street from a point approximately 6 metres in a southerly direction from the junction with U4245 Frolic Street in a southerly direction to the junction with A4811 New Road.
  • U4244 –  Park Lane from its junction with C2087 Park Street to a point approximately 44 metres in a north westerly direction from the junction with U4243 Parklands.

Welshpool

  • All of U4400 which includes Oldford Rise, Oldford Close, Prince of Wales Drive, Castle Walk, Bryn-y-Castell, The Willows, Queens Drive, Powys Court, Oldford and Leighton view.
  • All of U4416 Bronwylfa Road, the U4417 Gungrog Hill, the U4417 Kerrison
  • Drive, the U4417 Bryn Siriol, U4417 Bryn Glas, U4417 Bryn-y-Ddol, B4416 Gungrog Road B4416 Erw Wen, B4416 Wellington Crescent and the U4415 Garreg Drive U4423 Gallows Tree Bank and spur to Welshpool High school.

Ystradgynlais

  • For the full length of U0399, Croesffyrdd, Y Berllan, Gough Avenue from its junction with B4599 Wind Road to its junction with U0399 Tudor Street.
  • B4599 Wind Road from its junction with Glan-Rhyd Road for a distance of approximately 188 metres in a north westerly direction and Glan-Rhyd Road from its junction with Wind Road for a distance of approximately 24 metres in a north easterly direction.
