A MANUFACTURER in Powys is enjoying new contracts and recruiting new staff following a takeover and investment in its factory, a county mayor has said.

Llanfyllin mayor Peter Lewis was given a tour of the town's Marrill Ltd Factory to see the biggest press in the UK at work.

Following a meeting between the mayor and Marill Ltd the week prior, on June 5 Cllr Lewis was taken on a tour of the factory to see some of the new equipment currently being used at the factory, which Marrill took over after Stadco's decision to exit the town.

Cllr Lewis saw the biggest metal press in the UK at work in the factory, as well as a new laser cutter that is reportedly seven times faster than the previous one as well as a new automated welding booth.

Cllr Lewis also stated that Marill remains “very busy with new contracts” in Powys and is “recruiting extra staff”.

He added: “Thanks to Neil Davies, plant manager, for the tour, it's great to see such a modern, busy factory on our door step.”

The tour comes just over a year after the metal pressing company finalised their takeover of the former Stadco factory.

The purchase, announced in January 2022, came after months worth of efforts to save the Stadco factory from closure following an announcement by the company in September 2020 that it was to close.

As one of Llanfyllin’s biggest employers, there was relief for residents and local councillors that over 100 jobs would be secured with the takeover.

In 2022, Cllr Lewis said in a speech: “As we entered 2021 there was a shadow of doubt over the future of Stadco which is one of Llanfyllin’s biggest employers.

“Closure would have been devastating for the town, however with a lot of hard work, a new owner with Welsh Government funding it has finally been saved.”
