A handful of people from Powys were lucky enough to get a seat - and even perform - at King Charles III's Coronation ceremony in Westminster Abbey which was broadcast to millions across the world.

British Empire Medallist Violet McLellan for her work with adults with learning difficulties got a ring side seat at the royal event and even got a smile from the King.

The assistant day services manager at Castell Y Dail in Newtown said “It was absolutely amazing, a real pinch me moment. All the way through I couldn’t believe I was there.

“What you see on TV is so different. The choral music and songs were out of this world and seeing all the royal families, presidents, prime ministers. It was a real special occasion.

“The King smiled so I curtseyed; it was surreal.”

Banw Valley-raised royal harpist Alis Huws said it was "such an honour" to play Tros y Garreg by renowned Welsh composer Sir Karl Jenkins, a piece commissioned by the King more than two decades ago.

Alis took to social media to say it was “such a privilege to join the amazing musicians of the Coronation Orchestra in Westminster Abbey”.

“Grateful for the opportunity,” she added.

Also making a statement with her luxury womenswear was Meifod-raised fashion designer Claire Mischevani who said she was “truly honoured” to dress the Prime Minister’s wife Akshata Murty and the Princess of Wales’ sister Pippa Middleton for the occasion.

Claire said: “As an independent designer, I am extremely proud that all of our designs are made by my incredible team, here in the UK. Their experience and attention to detail, ensure that all of our pieces look effortlessly beautiful, on all of our wonderful clients.

Millions of people admired the beautiful seasonal flowers inside Westminster Abbey grown by members of Flowers from the Farm including Welshpool’s Lana Jeeves, of FloraLana Flowers.

Lana said she had grown the flowers from her plot which were placed at the Quire and the grave of the unknown warrior inside the abbey.

Montgomeryshire MP Craig Williams also attended the coronation ceremony on Saturday (May 6).

“It was a great honour to have attended, and to witness first hand such an historic occasion.” Mr Williams said.

“More importantly, we should all be extremely proud of the prominent role which Montgomeryshire played on the day.

“It was also fantastic to see so many events, parties and get togethers taking place across Montgomeryshire, in celebrating this significant step within our nation’s history.”
