The state of the county’s roads is a bugbear for some people and one Powys resident has taken matters into his own hands by investing in his own fleet of repairs vehicles.

But Dan Munford made his point with toys rather than heavy machinery as he brought a smile to local people’s faces over the issue.

The Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant resident posted pictures of the toy fleet around a pothole to highlight the problems on local roads.

“My wife Sian and I have lived in Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant since 2001. Unfortunately, the main road through our part of the village has never been in a worse condition than it is today,” said Mr Munford.

OTHER NEWS:

“This present, frankly dangerous situation appears to be long term in nature and has lasted a number of years.  Any repairs which are carried out are done badly and last a matter of days.

"So, like many other residents we felt that something had to be done to bring it to the urgent attention of the council.”

Where are the worst potholes in Powys?

According to the website fix my street complaints have been made about potholes across the county with some of them highlighting huge damage to some of the roads.

One Newtown resident anonymously complained about a “20 inch pothole”.

“It’s very deep it’s on the left hand side of common road near the junction of Ucher Dre it’s the light which no longer works and some bricks need replacing”

But that is quite small compared to the Llangyniew woodland road, near Pontrobert which was reported as having “multiple potholes on either side of access leading to houses and parking area for the woodland walks, potholes are almost 1m in length and one of them is 6inches deep, potholes are just before a blind summit on a one way road.”

This resident added: “It’s getting to a point that if someone hits it they are very likely to A: loss control and B: cause severe damage to their vehicle.”

Rookery Lane, just off B4355, in Knighton got multiple complaints – “potholes on Rookery Lane are really bad and dangerous as the road is really narrow with a stream each side.”

One user revieed a road just off  the B4390 near Berriew: “Horrific Potholes on already uneven road. Desperately need filling in. Car has been damaged due to how many and how deep they are. Potholes been there and only gotten worse for 3 months.”

However, the road that got some of the most complaints was the B4393 outsiside Llanfechain. Residents complained of “several potholes on the junction” another said “Potholes have been there for several months and gradually getting bigger and deeper. It has been filled in approximately 12 months ago, yet it is still a problem. Needs resurfacing along with the junction turning into llanfechain village which has the same problem.”

County Times:

Another made a report of large cracks on previous sink hole - “a previously repaired sink hole is showing signs of sinking and cracking again. It was getting worse, but I think the snow has now made a huge impact.

A Powys County Spokesperson said that they will be repairing road as budgets allow - “A road inspection was carried out in April. Following this there were some minor maintenance defects identified and programmed for repair when resource allows.”

“Any further larger resurfacing repairs identified will be put forward for future funding from appropriate budgets.”
