LLANIDLOES children will have a chance to meet Dr Suess’ famous Lorax and other characters such as the Once-ler and Truffula trees at a special event celebrating Earth Day (Saturday, April 22).

Arts Council Wales-funded storyteller Milly Jackdaw will perform The Lorax as part of a morning of activities from 10.30am at The Hanging Gardens in Bethel Street.

After The Lorax storytelling ends, the children and adults will walk to the Severn Porte park from 12.30pm for seed-sowing activities and the hanging of tree promises.

Compton's Yard Charitable Trust in Llanidloes, which has its origins in the alternative and early green movement in Wales, is organising the Earth Day events in conjunction with Zero Carbon Llanidloes.

OTHER NEWS:

Jane Callaghan, Compton's Yard trustee, said: “Compton's Yard was an early advocate of what we now call sustainable living and is loved by adults and children alike.

“Promoting this by telling the younger generation about the importance of caring for trees, as The Lorax does, and taking some practical action feels very important.

“Working with an experienced storyteller is a great way to engage everyone, especially children and their families, and inspire wonder in the natural world.

“This promises to be a highly theatrical, musical and animated telling!”

Entrance is free on a first-come-first-served basis. The event is open to everyone and there will be 30 places for children; they must be accompanied by at least one responsible adult.
