The eldest son of the late Welsh painter Gwilym Prichard and artist Claudia Williams is exhibiting his work at the Mid Wales Arts Centre, near Caersws.

More than 100 people packed to see the new exhibitions at the reopening of Mid Wales Arts for 2023 on Sunday (March 26), including Ceri Pritchard’s large colourful paintings, A State of Mind, which can be seen at the art centre’s new Artshed.

Executive director Cathy Knapp said Pritchard’s artwork offers a “surreal window into how the world we take for granted could potentially be affected by man’s contribution to climate change”, says executive director Cathy Knapp.

OTHER NEWS:

Llanidloes artist Jacob Deakin and Luke Augur, fresh from the London College of Communication with a first class honours degree, were introduced to Ceri by Mid Wales Arts Centre and given the opportunity to work on a film installation ‘Facsimile’ in which is projected onto a chair used in Pritchard’s paintings.

Visitors to the gallery have described the result as ‘’mesmerising’.

Cathy added: “Another artist living locally, Loraine Morley has produced a series of sculptural installations that drew admiration for her skilful use of recycled materials.

Her collection, titled ‘Melancholia’ describes her personal journey, her concerns about consumerism and the world’s finite resources.

“Ceramicist Owen Thorpe drew many keen collectors with over 100 beautifully designed and hand painted plates he produced during lockdown.

His wife, printmaker Angela Thorpe, is showing a new series of lithographs ‘Reviewed Perspectives’ in the Barn Gallery”

The exhibitions are open from Thursdays to Sunday and will continue until May 5. Entrance is free.
