People living near a Newtown road say they are afraid of walking or cycling into town due to a lack of footpath.

Town councillor Margaret Lewington says residents in Milford Road and on roads joining it “continually” ask her what can be done to make the 40mph stretch of road safer.

Cllr Lewington said: “I am aware of the work of our fantastic group of local resident volunteers who comprise the Milford Road speedwatch group and the amount of time they put into their efforts to make Milford Road safer for pedestrians and cyclists.

“There are many residents both young and old who have told me that they would like to be able to safely walk or cycle into town for either shopping, work, school or recreational purposes but are afraid to do so due to a lack of footpath along part of Milford Road in addition to the other safety measures.”

She will propose a motion on Monday (March 27) asking Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council to acknowledge and support the work of the Milford Road Speedwatch group and ward county councillor Pete Lewington to facilitate safe travel for pedestrians and cyclists on Milford Road.
