UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak enjoyed the tastes of Powys at an event in Downing Street this month.

Two Powys food and drink businesses visited No. 10 as part of a showcase of Welsh products to mark St David's Day.

The teams at Monty’s Brewery and Hilltop Honey, based in Newtown, were invited.

Russ and Pam Honeyman, founders of Monty’s, turned up at the gates with two boxes of beer, glassware, sampling cups and bottle openers.

Also enjoying the day was Scott Davies of Hilltop Honey, who introduced his products to the Prime Minister.

The event was held in two of the state rooms at No 10 with seven other Welsh food and drink business’s at the showcase event.

There was a harpist, a school choir sang the Welsh national anthem and a buffet provided by the team from Celtic Manor.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife spent time chatting to Pam about the ingredients and processes used at the brewery and also spoke to Scott about his honey manufacturing business.

Pam said: "To be invited to such an iconic building and to be part of showcasing the very best of Wales was a great honour.

"There were over 120 guests, including Welsh opera singer Bryn Terfel, and Max Boyce, although no Oggy Oggy Oggy’s were heard in number 10."

The brewery took the opportunity to showcase their new beer Navigation Pale Ale which is being launched for Easter to support the canal restoration project.
