The Elan Valley Estate will be holding a special supper to celebrate Welsh dark skies week.

The Elan Valley estate will be hosting a supper and talk at Penbont House on February 25, where the Dark Skies Team will showcase the Elan Valley International Dark Sky Park and, if the skies clear, show the wonders of the night sky at Cosmic Cwtsh, their remote observing site on the Elan Estate.

Sam Price, Dark Sky Officer for the Elan Valley International Dark Sky Park said: “The Dark Skies Team at Elan Valley are proud to be taking part in Welsh Dark Skies Week.

"We are looking forward to our event on 25th February, inviting people to find out more about our International Dark Sky Park and experience dark skies first-hand.

“There will be the opportunity to learn how to use a telescope and find out more about how to reduce light pollution to safeguard the precious night skies not only for ourselves, but for our environment”.

OTHER NEWS:

The Elan Valley Estate achieved International Dark Sky Park status in 2015 from the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA) and became the first privately owned but publicly accessible park in the world to do so.

This special week will be full of dark sky activities throughout Wales’s National parks and other protected landscapes – with other protected landscapes such as the Brecon Beacons National Park, Snowdonia National Park, Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, Clwydian Range and Dee Valley AONB all hosting events.

The week is aiming to raise awareness on how to reduce man-made light pollution to protect the magical, starry night skies for our health, the wildlife and the climate.

To date, Wales is the only country in the world to have the highest percentage of protected dark skies statuses.
