A special charity concert that promises to be a night of music and entertainment from a stellar line-up of mid Wales talent has almost sold out.

The Stand Up To Cancer Showcase hopes to raise awareness and funds for three fantastic charities at the event which will be held at Newtown’s 548-seater Theatre Hafren on Saturday, January 21.

Organiser Melanie Jayne, whose stage school will also be performing on the night, has called on her friends to help pull together a show stopping event including a West End performer who has worked with Robbie Williams, Alanis Morissette and Bryan Adams.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Lingen Davies Cancer Appeal, Stand Up To Cancer and Dreams & Wishes.

“It’s close to my heart being on that journey myself,” Melanie said. “We all have a story to tell when it comes to cancer, as it touches so many peoples lives. It brings many dark days but doing something like this brings everyone together to do something very special.”

Performers include MA Stage School, Newtown & District Male Voice Choir, Dai Robs, Sally Gartell Academy of Dance, Llani Dragonettes, Hafren Community Choir, Beth McCann, Harvey Challoner, Matthew Davies, and Arrive and Jive Welshpool.

Jem Brent, who will be duetting with Machynlleth’s Beth McCann, has appeared in many musical productions, and was lucky enough to share the stage with some famous singers such as Robbie Williams, Lauren Hill, Bryan Adams and Alanis Morissette.

Melanie said: “I feel it’s a one-night thing because it’s so special. Because it’s close to everyone’s heart there’s a real special energy in that place.

“For such a small town, we’ve got some lovely talent in Newtown. There’s a real array of performers and there will be something for everybody. But there will be tears!

“I’m very proud of their hard work and dedication. I hope it brings feelings of happiness and joy to all the audience and participants.”

The concert returns to Newtown for the first time since 2019 which raised £5,000 for cancer charities. “It brought people together and a meaning to community and how we pulled together,” Melanie added.

People who are unable to watch the concert but would like to contribute to the fundraiser can do so by donating online on the Cancer Research UK website.
