The New Saints progressed to the quarter-finals of the JD Welsh Cup on Saturday afternoon with an emphatic 7-0 victory over Newtown at Park Hall Stadium.

The Saints led as early as the eighth minute with Danny Davies' cross steered home from six yards by Ben Clark

Adam Wilson tested goalkeeper Dave Jones before Ryan Astles headed home Chris Marriott's 14th minute free-kick to double the home side's lead.

Newtown had no time to take stock and were further behind two minutes later with Ryan Brobbel slotting home.

A bizarre own goal from Callum Roberts whose attempted back pass from the halfway line lobbed his own keeper all but settled the tie before the break.

Newtown were brighter after the break with Fumpa Mwandwe testing TNS goalkeeper Connor Roberts into action after 51 minutes while the home custodian was also tested by Jake Walker on the hour.

Normal service resumed soon after with Declan McManus heading home Marriott's cross and moments later McManus turned provider as Clark completed his double.

McManus completed the drubbing with the seventh goal of the afternoon after a cross from Danny Redmond as the New Saints marched on to the quarter-final.

Guilsfield's cup adventure ended with a 2-1 defeat at home to fellow JD Cymru North side Holywell Town.

Goals from Ilan Ap Gareth Jones and Dan Andrews gave the Wellmen an interval lead which proved just enough after Callum Bromley reduced the arrears with 20 minutes remaining.
