This winner of Newtown's Christmas window competition has been revealed.

As part of the festivities in Newtown, businesses around the town centre were invited to participate in the Christmas Window Competition which showcased this year’s theme of Christmas in the Community.

The town council said the competition “was an opportunity for businesses to showcase produce and goods available in a Christmas setting”.

First prize this year went to the festive efforts of award-winning Waste Not Shop, which aims to get people buying and repairing items that have been saved from being dumped in landfills.

The Dressmakers Daughter finished a fine runner up with their delightful decorations and third was awarded to Sylvia’s Hair Salon for their snowy display.

“Many businesses had put in a significant amount of effort to decorate the windows and help create a festive Newtown. Newtown Carnival Queen Elect joined with the judging, which was a tricky task, I thank all those businesses who had got involved and showed their creativity.”

Councillors Margaret Lewington and Jack Griffin Lewis, lead Councillors for Kicking off Christmas 2022 delivered the invite to businesses at the start of November.

Those who took part were praised for having “gone to great efforts on decorating the windows” and judges said that due to the high standard “it took a lot of time and consideration to decide the winners of this year’s competition.”
