POWYS rally crew Matt Rees and Jamie Mills enjoyed a stellar week at the Exmouth Memorial Road Rally last weekend.
The 28 year old driver from Abermule was joined by his 24 year old co-driver from Forden in competing in the 20th edition of the popular rally which was based in Exeter,
Rees has been competing for a decade and Mills has been co-driving for the past six.
Rees made history as the first ever Welsh driver to claim rally glory while Mills became only the second winning Welsh co-driver in two decades.
The duo lined up in a Ford Escort Mk2 owned by Tsalta Motorsport in Aberystwyth.
Rally champions Matt Rees and Jamie Mills.
Rees said: “The rally was 200 miles long we took it easy for the first part to get use to a car that I wasn’t use to.
“We came into the first petrol halt two minutes and nine seconds off the lead and in second place.
“In the second part of the rally everything just clicked and we took the lead coming into the second petrol halt by three minutes and 19 seconds.
“Knowing we were doing well it was just a case of getting the car to the finish.”
Rees and Mills won the rally by more than a minute with Richard Millner, the M-sport World Rally Team Principal and Michael Gilby, trailing in their wake in second place..
Mills said he was now looking forward to a break from rallying while Mills is hopeful of competing in the Welsh Championship next season,
He said: “I’m going to have time off rallying to have more family life with my wife Jess and my 17 month old boy Dylan.”
