HALF term in the Elan Valley is jam packed with things to do and kicking off the week is the return of ‘Spooky Dam Open Day’ over Hallowe’en weekend, on Sunday and Monday, October 30 and 31.

The ghosts and ghouls are back at Pen y Garreg Dam and have spooked some of the local wildlife, children will need to be brave as they search the woodland then venture inside a haunted Pen Y Garreg dam. Don’t worry, it’s a fun family event and aimed at all ages.

To book visit https://widget.eola.co/939/activities. Kids are just £1.50 each, adults £5, slots are available from 1pm through to 3.30pm. Fancy dress is optional but we encourage as many spooky costumes as possible.

Create your own Hallowe’en-themed bottle rockets on Wednesday, November 2, at this fun and innovative workshop. Kids are invited to let their creativity run wild with a plastic bottle, then watch it take off with the help of science.

Two sessions are available, 1pm and 3pm. To book your place go to https://widget.eola.co/939/activities/halloween-bottle-rockets.

Autumn is the perfect time to get out onto the Elan Valley estate and explore the wonderful colours and scenery. Bike hire is a great way to see it and even better on an ebike. Bike hire is available every day from the visitor centre between 10am-3.30pm. You can prebook online and walk-ins are welcome, although we advise pre-booking to avoid disappointment. Book online at https://www.elanvalley.org.uk/events/info/430572.

The finale to the half term week is the Winter Fair on Sunday, November 6, between 10am and 4pm. There will be local food and drink producers along with crafts and gifts.

Get a head start on Christmas shopping as you browse the stalls for chocolate, preserves, tea and much more. Then, take a look at the newly expanded gift shop where you’ll find stocking fillers and a fantastic range of outdoor clothing accessories, including hats, thermal socks, scarves and beanies. We’ve also a new range of Hawke binoculars in stock, visit https://www.elanvalley.org.uk/.
