Llanidloes is once again set to host a national croquet competition final this weekend.

The Welsh Croquet Association Golf Croquet Club competition final will involve teams representing Llanfairfechan and Llandovery

Play begins at 9.30am on Saturday (September 10) and will continue all day with four games of doubles and 12 of singles.

It is the second year running that Llanidloes Croquet Club has been invited to host the national final.

Janet Crisp, club secretary, said: "Spectators are welcome as it gives us a chance to promote the game locally as it is a sport for people of all ages and abilities. It can be played just for fun and the sociability or competitively up to national standard.

"This is a sport that is ignored but has proved very popular in Llanidloes and we have had more than 30 members every year since we started in 2019 and are pleased to see that Welshpool could soon have a Croquet Club too."

Earlier this year, the Club received £500 funding boost from Localgiving and Postcode Community Trust, a grant-giving charity funded by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, to buy equipment for young people.

The club will use the money to purchase smaller mallets, hoops balls and coaching so that younger people aged between eight and 18 are able to participate in playing the sport in Llanidloes.
