Newtown High School celebrated a successful return to A Level exam results, for the first time since 2019.

Throughout Wales, reported results are higher than those in summer 2019, but are lower compared to the Centre Determined Grades of 2021.

Headteacher Rob Edwards congratulated students on their “strong” results after a “very difficult” period in their school career.

Outstanding results from students include Emily Bleakley (three As and one B) who intends to go on to Aberystwyth University to study Education and History, Megan Costall (one A* and four As) who will go on to the University of Birmingham to study Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences, Dylan Downs (one A*, two As) who intends to take a gap year, Katy Hill (two As and two Bs) who has been offered a place at Cardiff University to study Biomedical Sciences, Iwan Mills (three As) who will go on to Oxford Brookes University to study Motorsport Engineering and Keera Sevier (one A*, one A and one B) who will be taking a gap year.

Notable performances at AS level include Sofia Morales (three As and one B), Molly Ricketts (one A and three Bs) and Matthew Watkins (one A and two Cs).

Mr Edwards said: “After three very difficult school years for year 13, I am pleased to see such a strong set of results. The students have worked extremely hard during some very challenging conditions.”

"It was a pleasure to see the students collecting their results, and achieving some outstanding grades. Our staff have been incredible in adapting and supporting the students during these challenges, and I would like to personally thank them for their hard work and efforts.”

"I would also like to take this opportunity to thank parents and carers whose support has helped our students to achieve so much in challenging circumstances.”

"Good luck to all of our students as they embark on the next stages of their education, careers and future.

"We wish you every success.”
