Ysgol Llanfyllin celebrated an “outstanding” A Level results day.

According to the school, a remarkable 28 students (40 per cent of the year group) who achieved at least three A* and A grades or equivalent.

This is particularly remarkable after two years of disruption for learners after Covid-19 meant that they were unable to sit their GCSE’s meaning that this year has been the first time since 2019 that they have sat externally assessed exams

It was also the first results since the opening of the new all age Ysgol Llanfyllin and its dedicated ‘Chweched’ Sixth Form Centre.

The school in a statement expressed its “heartfelt thanks and congratulations to all our students, families and staff members for their hard work, dedication and professionalism.”

All students gained a place at the university of their choice to study a range of courses including Technology, Medicine, Mathematics, Sciences, Humanities and the Arts.

Ben Benson and Matthew Blowers both said they were “delighted” to have both secured places at Cambridge to study Engineering and Computer Science respectively after achieving 5A* grades each.

Other students were also delighted by their results after a difficult couple of years, Ffion Davies said: “I’m pretty chuffed. I was initially disappointed after the exams, now it seems a bit silly."

Headteacher Dewi Owen said he was “chuffed to bits."

He added: "Chuffed to bits for the pupils, chuffed to bits for their parents and families.

"It’s a brilliant day for them after the adversity they have faced over the last two years.”
