POLICE are appealing for information after a motorcyclist was killed in a crash that closed a main road through Powys for several hours this weekend.

A collision closed the A470 between Llanidloes and Llandinam from the late morning until almost 11pm on Saturday, August 6.

Officers were called to the scene at around 11.25am following a three-vehicle collision involving a grey Volvo XC90, a white BMW 330i and a red and white Yamaha FZ1 motorcycle.

The 46-year-old rider of the motorcycle was declared dead at the scene.

A 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and causing death by dangerous driving. He has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

The road was closed for several hours and reopened at 10.50pm.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses to the fatal collision or anyone who witnessed any of the vehicles shortly before the collision, to get in touch.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage that could help officers with their investigation is asked to report it to Dyfed-Powys Police, either online at https://bit.ly/DPPContactOnline, by emailing 101@dyfed-powys.police.uk, or by calling 101.

It was the first of two crashes that occurred on the A470 over the weekend, with another collision leaving the road between Rhayader and Llangurig closed for a few hours on Sunday, August 7, also involving a car and a motorcycle.

The road was closed for emergency services to deal with the incident and for the recovery of the vehicles before reopening at 3.45pm.
