PENPARCAU booked their place in the second qualifying round of the JD Welsh Cup with a 2-1 win over a visiting Rhayader Town on Friday night.

Mattie Davies opened the scoring after 15 minutes before Elwyn Edwards doubled Arky's lead early in the second-half with Jordan McFadden's 77th minute penalty proving consolation.

Brecon Corries opened their campaign with a 2-1 win at home to Caerleon to book their place in the next round on Saturday.

Craig Evans and James Jeffreys strikes gave the Corries the lead and the hosts held firm despite Scott Smith reducing the arrears.

Meanwhile Knighton Town celebrated a 2-1 win at Berriew whose own turbulent summer saw a host of departures and dropping down a league to the MMP Central Wales League North.

Goals from Declan Beddoes and Dan Farmer midway through the first-half gave the Robins the lead with Sion Wilde halving the deficit for the hosts on the hour.

Elsewhere Ricky Ricketts led the scoring with two goals as Bow Street eased to a 6-0 win at home to Llansantffraid with Ben Davies, Ifan Burrell, Steff Richards and Sion Ewart completing the scoring for the Magpies.

Carno also opened sealed their progress with a comfortable 5-0 win at home to Aberaeron with Tyler McCarthy leading the way with a double.

Further goals from Ryan Pugh, Geraint Jones and Sion Wild sealed the Greens' place in the draw for the second qualifying round.

Dolgellau AA overcame the challenge of Builth Wells with Gerwyn Williams netting twice for the hosts before seeing Gethin Evans dismissed while Lee James saw red for the Bulls.

Aeron Powell reduced the arrears for Builth but the dismissal of Ryan Powell ended their hopes of a comeback as Dolgellau held firm to progress.

Meanwhile Llandrindod Wells were made to toil in a 3-1 win at home to Four Crosses with Darryl Nicholls, Sam De Groot and Zak Baker goals giving the Spamen the lead before Luke Jones hit back for Crosses.

Waterloo Rovers sealed their progress with a 2-1 win at Llanilar courtesy of goals from Steve Jones and Tom Ellis before Ryan Hopkins reduced the arrears for the Swallows.

Elsewhere Montgomery Town came out on top in a nine goal thriller at home to Tywyn Bryncrug.

Monty led with goals from Tom Evans and Jack Williams at the break before Ryan Goddard struck twice to bring Tywyn level by the hour.

Alec Jones restored the home side's lead only for Goddard to complete his hat-trick before goals from Evans and Lee Jones gave Monty a two goal cushion.

Tywyn reduced the arrears through Nick Williams with three minutes remaining but Montgomery held out to seal their progress.

Meanwhile Abermule sprung a shock with a 2-1 win at home to Welshpool Town who led through Harry Harding before Greg Pryce levelled from the penalty spot and Ed Bennett-Jones' 55th minute strike completed their victory.

Meanwhile Barmouth United celebrated a 3-1 win at home to Blaenau Ffestiniog.

William Jones fired the hosts ahead early in the second-half only for Jack Diamond to level for the visitors before Llion Owen and Lucas John goals ensured the Magpies a second qualifying round ticket.

Presteigne St Andrews received a walk over after Trefonen conceded their tie while Machynlleth also progress after scheduled hosts Brecon withdrew and wound up first team operations for the forthcoming season.
