THE eyes of British bowls were transfixed by events in Powys last week.
Llandrindod Wells Bowling Club is regarded as the Wembley of British bowls and welcomed the top players from across the country for last week’s British Isles Championships.
The club is well known for producing stars of the green with a host of outdoor and indoor internationals emerging from the town over the decades.
Meanwhile the club’s Rock Park Greens have been famous across the country since their founding in 1912.
Steve Jones and Sam Roff won the Open Pairs.
The club was well represented and several of its members used home advantage to ensure national titles.
Ryan Atkins won the Under 25 Singles after a 21-12 victory over his English counterpart before prevailing 21-19 in the final against a Scottish rival.
Berriew’s Sophie Gittins, Emma Kathy Pearce and Eileen Williams claimed a women’s fours silver.
Meanwhile clubmates Steve Jones and Sam Roff won the Open Pairs after wins over Jersey (18-17), England (25-22) and Ireland (24-17).
