THE case of a Powys man accused of being in charge of a vehicle when over the legal drink drive limit and being in possession of cannabis is to be heard next month.

Alexander Burnett, 41, did appear at Welshpool Magistrates’ Court last week but his case was adjourned.

Burnett, of Penylan, Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, is alleged been at the wheel of his VW Golf in the middle of a junction on the B4580 between Llanrhaeadr and Penybontfawr on the morning of June 2.

Dyfed Powys Police charged him with being drunk in charge of a vehicle and possession of 24.2 grams of cannabis but prosecutor Helen Tench said at the hearing, on Tuesday, June 21, that the drunk in charge offence is likely to be amended to drink driving. She also said the possession charge is to be changed to 12 grams of cannabis, not 24.

Magistrates adjourned the case until July 12.
