NEWTOWN have made their third signing of the summer after Theo Wharton joined from Barry Town United.

The 27 year old St Kitts and Nevis international midfielder joins the Robins for an undisclosed fee and will link up with his new team-mates ahead of their Europa Conference first qualifying round clash with HB Torshavn of the Faroes.

A Barry Town Football Club spokesman said: "We can confirm that Theo Wharton has today joined Newtown Football Club for an undisclosed fee. Theo had signed a two year contract with the club but had made it clear his desire to depart us following Newtown's approach and offer.

"All at the club would like to thank Theo for his time with us and wish him the very best of luck."

Wharton started his career at Cardiff City, playing for their under-18 side during the 2011-12 season. His impressive form for the youth team resulted in a first-team call up by manager Malky Mackay for the FA Cup game against West Bromwich Albion, in which he came on as a substitute.

Wharton signed for newly relegated National League North club York City in 2017 and had a loan spell at Tamworth before stints at Nuneaton Borough and Hereford before signing for Barry Town United in 2020.

He becomes Newtown's third summer signing following the arrival of midfielder Matt Jones from Aberystwyth Town and forward Louis Robles from TNS.

Meanwhile Newtown shared a goalless draw against Linfield in Windsor Park this afternoon as their European preparations continued.
