One of the county's best jazz artists is set to perform at an evening of food and music at Newtown’s Oriel Davies.

Described by the director of the famous Brecon Jazz festival as “one of the most impressive guitarists and best musicians around”, Will Barnes and his quartet will give a live performance on Saturday, July 2, with live visuals from local artist Erin Hughes.

Before the feast of music, Cultivate will be serving seasonal, locally grazing platters at the gallery which will have been freshly picked from their community garden.

Newtown town centre arts venue Oriel Davies will also host the free-to-enter outdoor Summer Fayre during the day which will include workshops, performances, music and dancing, food and drink from 11am to 6.30pm.

Steffan Jones-Hughes, Oriel Davies director, said: “This is day of a great community collaboration between Oriel Davies, Will Barnes Quartet, Cultivate, and Open Newtown. In the daytime the Summer Fair is organised as part of Open Events, a project led by Open Newtown, in partnership with Oriel Davies Gallery. We're pleased to also be working with The One Planet Generation and Creative Stuff Newtown.

“The evening sees us bringing the finest local musicians into the gallery for an evening of laidback jazz tunes with the Will Barnes Quartet. Join us for food and music.

“What better way to end a fine summer’s day at Newtown’s Summer Fayre, than with a tasty meal of small plates of locally produced food from the Cultivate community garden followed by incredible music from eight ‘til late.”

Food with Friends, which takes place from 6pm to 7.45pm, costs £10 per person, which is then followed by the Will Barnes Quartet (£15) from 7.30pm.
