THE Llandyssil Wild Flower Meadow will officially open on Saturday morning.

Natural world broadcaster Iolo Williams, who lives nearby, will officially open the new meadow at 10.30am with a ceremony at the village playing field.

The Chairman of the Peter Warlock Society, Michael Graves and his wife will also attend the opening together with Derek Preston-Hughes of the National Lottery.

The Llandyssil Community Charitable Trust is helping their community to adapt, recover and thrive by creating a wildflower meadow and seating area in a corner of the Playing/Dragonfest Field.

The project was backed by the National Lottery Community Fund with a £900 grant and celebrates the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and also the life of Peter Warlock.

Community Councillor Gwyneth Jones and Kathy Braddock, together with numerous volunteers, said: "This has helped to bring our community together.

"Working to create a peaceful place where people can relax, reflect and where walkers can take a rest. It is also a valuable learning curve for us all as we gather knowledge about the environment and how to value it more. Thanks also go the Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust who provided advice and support."

The meadow is also part of the Peter Warlock Trail.

Peter Warlock was born Philip Heseltine in 1894 and became a renowned international composer, music critic and author who lived at Cefn Bryntalch while also playing the organ at St Tyssil’s Church in the village.

While he died in 1930 an active Peter Warlock Society internationally has since lived on and donated £450 to the project.

Cllr Jones added: "Without this generous funding, especially in such hard times, it would impossible to create such a meadow. We are so grateful for the finance and to the volunteers who have and are still working on the project."

For the last few months volunteers have worked on the project and planted more than 200 plants with seeds sewn and signage erected.
