A POWYS man caught speeding at nearly 100 miles per hour in a 40mph zone on a motorway has learned a harsh lesson after he fined over £1,000.
Wayne Victor Sidell, from Newtown, was caught driving on the M5 in Worcestershire on September 16 last year. The 55-year-old was driving his Audi between junctions 6 to 4A northbound when the area was subject to a variable speed limit.
That limit was 40mph, but Sidell was clocked travelling at 92mph. He was fined £1,100 when he appeared in court last week.
Sidell, of Wern Lane, Newtown, appeared at Hereford Justice Centre last Tuesday, June 14, where he pleaded guilty to a charge of exceeding a variable speed limit
He was also ordered to pay a surcharge of £110 as well as costs of £90 – bringing his total financial outlay to £1,300. Sidell agreed to pay the sum in full by July 12.
He also had six points placed on his driving licence.
