GUILSFIELD have been dealt a double blow with the departure of two key players for Aberystwyth Town.

Sam Litchfield and Iwan Lewis were both confirmed as new Seasiders today (Sunday) having previously announced their departure from Clos Mytton.

29-year old defender Litchfield joined Guilsfield in 2015 and returned following a brief spell at JD Cymru Premier side Newtown in 2017.

Litchfield leaves the captain's armband to fill having ended his final campaign with the Guils in third and himself in the JD Cymru North team of the year.

Litchfield said: "I used to play in the Ian Rush tournament as a youth and absolutely loved it, so I'm no stranger to Aberystwyth.

"However, I've never played at Park Avenue which is something I'm hugely looking forward to.

"It will be a pleasure to play in front of the vocal fans as I know the club is one of the best supported in the league."

Litchfield was convinced to make the switch after talks with newly installed Aberystwyth manager Anthony Williams.

He said: "I spoke with the gaffer on a few occasions. It was his vision for the club and how he wants to play that convinced me that I will be a perfect fit.

"The squad was quite young last season, so I'm hoping to bring my leadership qualities to the group and help the club have a successful season.

"I'm excited to get going with pre-season now and glad we have four home games to get to know the group, the club, and the fans before the start of the season."

Midfielder Lewis, also 29, arrives with experience from spells at Caersws and Porthmadog and also ended last season in the JD Cymru North team of the season.

Lewis said: "I'm delighted to be joining one of the most established clubs in the league who have such a great following.

"Taff rang shortly after being announced as manager to talk through his plans for the club and the way he wanted to play. It was never going to be easy to leave a group of lads and club like Guilsfield but I felt it was too good an opportunity to turn down.

"I'm looking forward to getting back to it ahead of the new season and putting the work in to put us in a good position to start the season."

Williams praised both players and said the pair would bring experience to his squad which has been hit by several departures in recent weeks, leaving the ex-Cardiff Met coach to rebuild.

Williams said: "I'm delighted that Sam and Iwan have chosen to join us as both had offers elsewhere.

"They will bring heaps of experience and quality to our squad. Sam is a dominant, athletic centre-half and Iwan brings huge energy as a dynamic box-to-box midfielder."
