THE Mid and North Powys Junior Football League marked the end of its season with a host of festivals and final days.

The popular league caters for junior sides from Montgomeryshire to Radnorshire with hundreds of boys and girls beginning their lifelong love of the game in their local league.

This season saw the league return after two miserable years impacted by the pandemic and lockdown restrictions which badly hit Welsh sport with many sides unable to train or play throughout the restrictions.

As such the league and been embraced warmly by players, coaches and supporters following its return.

This also saw a host of junior festivals held across the region to mark the end of a successful season.

Llanfair United Football Club, home of Llanfair United and one of the most picturesque in Wales, hosted the under 6, 7 and under 10s festivals.

Meanwhile Llanidloes Town Football Club played host to the under 8 and 9s festivals.

The biggest match of the season saw Newtown Whitestars face off against Welshpool Town in the final of the under 15s cup in Llanfair Caereinion.

A thrilling encounter saw Welshpool lead 3-2 at the break only for the Stars to recover and lead 4-3 in a thrilling encounter.

Welshpool bounced back to lead 5-4 before the Stars snatched a last gasp leveller.

The match was eventually won by Welshpool who scored a crucial sixth late in extra-time.

The result completed a league and cup double for Welshpool Town while Newtown Whitestars were consoled with the Winter League title.

New league chairman Craig Griffiths thanked all the clubs, coaches, players, parents and guardians for their support this season.

Griffiths takes the helm after the long-serving Paul Inns stepped down at the end of the season to focus on his new role as manager of Berriew Football Club.
