THE investigation into a collision between a school bus and primary school pupils last month is continuing, police have confirmed.

The bus crashed into a group of school children in Llanfair Caereinion shortly before 3.30pm on Monday, May 23, which involved five people being taken to hospital – four Ysgol Gynradd Llanfair Caereinion pupils and the driver of the bus.

Two of the four children were soon released from hospital and into the care of their parents, while the male driver of the bus was also discharged from hospital shortly after.

Dyfed Powys Police Inspector Matthew Price said earlier today that the force continues to investigate the collision, which happened in School Lane.

Inspector Price said police continue to look into the cause of the collision, confirming that it is ongoing and officers are still speaking to witnesses. He said it won’t be a quick process but he hoped the results of the investigation would be available soon.

The collision occurred at the end of the school day as pupils from both Ysgol Gynradd Llanfair Caereinion and Ysgol Uwchradd Caereinion were leaving for the day.

Three children were airlifted to hospital while another child and the bus driver were taken to hospital by land ambulance. The remaining child was discharged at the scene. All five children were described as being primary school aged.

Both schools were back open the following day, with pupils and staff at both schools supported by Powys County Council's school service officers.

Anyone with information that could help officers with their investigation is asked to report it to Dyfed Powys Police, either online, by emailing 101@dyfed-powys.police.uk, or by calling 101.
