I read the report of the group stranded by Transport for Wales at Llandrindod Wells, and thought you may also be interested in my story.

I travelled with an elderly friend (81 years) from Llandeilo, where we parked, to Llandrindod Wells at the start of the year.

The return train at 3.43 was cancelled, the station closed and a bus promised.

The conditions were appalling – freezing sleet. The bus had not even left Carmarthen and would do so after it had completed the school run – maybe in three or four hours’ time.

No way would we stand waiting so someone helped us find a taxi.

It cost £60 and a great deal of stress. Neither of us have a “smart” phone and when I checked my emails the notice to cancel had come through 10 minutes before the due train.

TfW apologised, refunded the return fares and included a £20 voucher for use on a train – so that cost them nothing.

No way would they cover the £60.

There is no customer care or service these days. I was travelling some years ago from London to Swansea, then on to Builth Road.

When my connection at Swansea was clearly going to be missed, the conductor came through the train asking if anybody had an onward journey.

A taxi was waiting for me and it delivered me to my door.

That is customer service.

Carmarthenshire.
