A dad-of-seven has been told to put his affairs "in order" before he is sentenced for a dangerous driving incident in Powys which left a pensioner in intensive care.

David Painter appeared at Mold Crown Court for sentencing on Tuesday after having previously been convicted of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The 43-year-old had also been convicted of drug driving at Welshpool Magistrates Court, which heard he'd "moved almost fully" into oncoming traffic in his Peugeot Boxer van while driving along the A4113 near Knighton last year.

He was found to have been at least sixteen times over the drug limit when he had more than 800 microgrammes of Benzoylecgonine per litre of blood.

The prescribed limit for Benzoylecgonine is 50mgs.

At his crown court appearance this week Dafydd Roberts, defending, told the court a pre-sentence report had not been prepared in respect of his client.

He said there were points he wished to advance in Painter's defence and that the court would be assisted by a report.

Those include joint caring responsibilities for his children – of which he has seven – and background matters including his mental health.

Judge Niclas Parry told the defendant: "I'm going to adjourn for a pre-sentence report. Put your affairs in order."

Painter, of Clunbury Hall in Shropshire, will next appear at the court on June 28 for sentence.
