PAUL Inns has stepped down as chairman of the Mid and North Powys Junior Football League after 12 years.

Inns is stepping up to manage Berriew Football Club in the Ardal North East League next season and will be succeeded in his junior league role by Craig Griffiths of Llanfair United.

Inns' career in coaching started with Berriew Juniors 14 years ago after watching the coach training 10 to 12 children on his own and offered to help.

Inns and Andrew Wilde took over the role and have today grown Berriew Juniors to more than 295 players which includes 101 girls.

During his career in junior football Inns also coached an academy team in Newtown for 10 years from U7 to U16, as well as the North Wales regional team picking up local and national FAW awards for his work.

New chairman Paul Griffiths said: "On behalf of the current and past committee members I would like to thank Paul for his hard work contribution to junior football in the area.

"There is a lot of hard work that goes on behind the scenes to ensure opportunities for grassroots football is provided and Paul has been key in driving this forward and has left big boots for the rest of us to fill.

"Iā€™m pleased Paul has accepted a non-voting position on the committee so we are able to utilise his experience and provide a smooth transition particularly for myself as well as providing a link to the Central Wales FA where Paul remains secretary."

Meanwhile the new chairman said Inns' development of Berriew's junior ranks was now the benchmark for other clubs.

Griffiths added: "Paul will continue to focus on the development of girls football in the area, again showing his continued passion and commitment to providing opportunities for both boys and girls to play football in the area.

"We wish Paul every success in his future endeavours and with his management roles with Berriew first team and the newly formed ladies team."
