The Welsh Hill Border Rally 2022 is coming to Welshpool this weekend.

The rally will take place from May 27 to May 29 and will see approximately 400 people visiting Welshpool for the event which promises to be exciting for both spectators and competitors.

Up to 60 teams, comprising of a driver, navigator and their service crew, are expected to compete in the event.

Neil Rogers, from Welsh Hill Borders Rally 2022, said: “The reason I wanted to hold the event was because I live in the area and I hope it will benefit the local community and economy when teams, marshals and officials book accommodation, eat out and generally spend money locally.

“We have also tried to source any supplies and services for the event locally so overall we estimate that the event will bring in around £100K to local businesses.

“It is also something new to the area so will generate interest and will hopefully be viewed as something positive.”

Wales Air Ambulance has been selected as the rally’s recipient charity and will have their own stand with multiple collection buckets for donations.

The stand will also be giving away the official programme for Welsh Hill Border Rally 2022.

Mr Rogers added: “As the programme has covered the printing costs, we decided not to charge people for the programme but felt that if people could pick one up from the Wales Air Ambulance stand they could be encouraged to make a donation to the charity.

“As it may be a service that we may have to call upon at some point, but we hope we never need to, it seemed the perfect choice to give the funds to Wales Air Ambulance.”

Dougie Bancroft, Community Fundraiser for the Wales Air Ambulance, said: “We’re delighted to have been chosen as the only charity to benefit from this exciting three-day event.

“Their support of our lifesaving charity is much appreciated.

“Any donations made during the Welsh Borders Hill Rally 2022 will help us continue to be there for the people of Wales when they need us most.”

The rally will begin with scrutineering on Friday at Berriew Street car park from 10am to 2pm, then at Welshpool Livestock Market for the rest of the day.
