ONE of Newtown's most famous landmarks and historic buildings has been struck by vandals.

St David's Church on New Road was vandalised last month and locals have been dismayed to discover the site was once again targeted over the weekend.

Paul Williams lives nearby and shared his pictures of the discovery.

He said: "This is really sickening yet again. Whoever you are, stop it."

"I have reported to the relevant parties of the church again but yet again people seem hell bent on destroying this wonderful church even further.

"After my previous posts of the windows being smashed, some people have been back again the last few days yet again and decided to smash them in even further."

Toddler issues plea for vandals to stop targeting Newtown church

Mr Williams appealed to those responsible to start respecting their town and its historic buildings, all the more after the collapse of the nearby Bethel Chapel last year.

Like the now demolished Bethel Chapel, St David's has been long abandoned and not used for church services since 2006.

Yet the church, designed and built by Thomas Penson between 1843 and 1847 as a replacement for St Mary's Church and resting site to many of Newtown's prominent Victorian's, retains much love from the community which would have the building maintained and preserved.

However Mr Williams fears the church will continue to be target of vandals.

He said: "Be warned as there are regular patrols around there so if your caught doing it the police will be involved instantly."
