An independent brewery located in the Tanat Valley has won an award just over a year after it first started.

Welsh brewery Bragdy Tanat took home the bronze at the Society of Independent Brewers’ Wales and West Independent Beer Awards.

The awards took place at Ludlow Beer Festival where the Llanrhaeadr-Ym-Mochnant brewer’s beer Telyn Deires was awarded one of the top prizes by the festival’s jury.

Roy Allkin, Society of Independent Brewers chairman, said: “Judges had a tough job separating the pack as the standard was extremely high once again.

“Lucky beer festival attendees at Ludlow were able to try this and other award-winning beers immediately after the competition, something which is great for brewers too as they get to put their beers into the hands of real beer-lovers.

“The winners from the Society of Independent Brewers competition are officially the best independent craft beers in the Wales and West region, something brewers should be extremely proud of.”

As the awards are judged mostly by brewers, industry experts and beer journalists the Independent Beer Awards are very much seen as the prestigious Brewers’ choice awards by the industry.

Jeff Laing from Bragdy Tanat said: “I would like to say thank you to our local community for their fantastic support over the past year.

“After just a year of production in our tiny microbrewery it is great to know that experts in the brewing world have acknowledged that our beer is amongst the best in the region.

“I am very proud to get this award in the face of strong competition. It is great to realize that small local production here in the Tanat Valley can be as good or better than products from larger and long established brewer.”
