Russell George MS paid a visit to a holiday park near Machynlleth as part of Wales Tourism Week.
On May 17, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Montgomeryshire visited Morben Isaf Holiday Home and Touring Park.
The park’s managing director, Dylan Thomas, raised concerns over the Welsh Government’s proposals for tourism and taxation, siting the potential effects it could have on the industry.
Mr George said: “Speaking to Dylan and many other Tourism based businesses it is clear to me that a tourism tax would be hugely damaging to the tourism industry and the wider economy.
"All said, It’s encouraging to see continued investment being made by Bywater Leisure Parks in Dyfi View at Morben Isaf which is being sensitively developed alongside the Dyfi Osprey Project.”
Morben Isaf recently invested £750,000 in an exclusive development of 16 pitches for holiday lodges and static caravans.
Mr George added: “I hope that all businesses in Mid Wales are allowed to bounce back and prosper post covid and are not hampered by new unhelpful policies such as the Tourism Tax proposal.”
